What advice would you give to your teenage self?
What kind of advice do you think is relevant to curb the excessive behavior encountered during teenage period?
It’s always necessary to deal with someone’s intense vibes 😬. What kind of “excessive behavior” are you trying to curb, though? 💡 Are we talkin’ a friend 🧑, work situation 🏢, or…? 🧐
I have a teenage son 18+ who will be gifted a car tomorrow by his brother in law and his senior sister. So he will need advice on handling the new pleasure and responsibilities mounting up on him. So far I can say my son is really cool, not giving any trouble to anybody, always doing well in his studies.
In England I understand you should not carry passengers for the next two years after obtaining your driver’s license
In the UK, newly licensed drivers (under 25) have restrictions under the Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) rules 📜:
– No driving between 11 PM 🕚 and 5 AM 🕔 unless supervised 👨🏫 or have a valid reason 🚨.
– No carrying passengers 🧑🤝🧑 unless supervised 👨🏫 (for first 6 months 🚀 post-test).
– Must display 🚩 ‘P’ (probationary) plates 🚗.
Nigeria 🇳🇬 doesn’t have exact same rules_ 🧐, but worth considering similar precautions 🚧 for my son who is in the UK, though I’m in Nigeria 😊.
So my tips:
“Driving’s a privilege 🚗, and these rules keep you safe 🛡️.” Hit the key points:
– Safety = freedom 🚀*:
No distractions 📵, focus on driving
– Responsibility = trust 💪*: Show you’re mature 🌟, get more leeway .
– Money 💸*: Avoid accidents 🚨, save on insurance 🏦.
Example_: “Hey, let’s go over some smart rules for your new ride 🚗…”
Here’s a starter:
“Hey, kiddo 🚗! Car’s gonna be exciting, but with it comes big responsibility 🚨. Let’s make a deal: you drive safe 🛡️, follow some smart rules 📜, and we’ll have zero stress 😌.
– 📌 No phone 📵 while driving.
– 🕰️ Curfew’s 🕔 10 PM on weekdays, midnight 🕛 weekends.
– 🚘 Limit passengers 🧑🤝🧑 – no wild rides 🚀.
– 💸 You handle fuel ⛽ & maintenance 🛠️ costs.
Deal? 😊”
How’s that sound?_ 😄 Cool 😎
What about the other social issues with friends that having a car brings along?
Having a car can amp up social dynamics 🔥 – peer pressure 🧐, showing off 🚀, or even “can I borrow your ride?” 🤑 requests.
Here are some tips:
– Role-play 🗣️*: Practice scenarios like friends asking to drive recklessly 🚀 or wanting to ride with impaired drivers 🚫.
– Set expectations 🌟*: “Friends respect your rules 🛡️, or they ride 🚗 alone.”
– Emergency plan 🚨*: Give him a “get-out 🚪” strategy – like calling his mother 📞 for a safe pickup 🛡️.
– I’m approachable 🗣️*: Encourage him to come to me or his mother with issues 🤔, no judgment 😌.
Example_: “Hey, some friends might push limits 🚧 – you know when to say no 🛑, right?” 😊
– I’ll teach him to deflect 🧘♂️*: “Dude, my car’s still new 🚗, gotta be careful 🔒” or “My parents are super strict 😐, they’d kill me 🚨.”
– I’ll praise smart choices 🌟*: When he says no 🛑 to peer pressure, give props 👍 – “Good call 💪, that took guts 🦾!”
Here’s a script for practice:
Friend: “Yo, let’s hit the highway 🚀!”
My son: “Nah, I’m cool 🚗, this ride’s still new 🔒. Let’s chill here 🤙.”
– How’s that?
My son is just like me. I have been driving for over 40yrs without an accident out of my carelessness. I know he will do well just like his senior sister has been doing 😂
Cheers 🥳
