Encouraged myself -Resilience through trials and tribulation

What’s something you’ve done that you never thought you could?

What’s something I’ve done that never thought I could?

I thank God for still many more testimonies.

1-You know when I hear married couples are having difficulty having children I told myself I would move on and pick other women to have children. But when I got married in 1991 my wife put to bed in 1992 our first child and daughter. After her I had to wait 15yrs to have another child, a son in 2007 who is now in the university in UK. I never thought I could wait that long to have another child without getting another woman or leaving my marriage. Many men say that, and many do it.But you married in 1991, God gave my daughter in 1992, and then 15 years of waiting for my son till 2007. 15 years, yet I stayed. I did not bring another woman, and did not leave my marriage. That is not easy, especially with pressure from family, friends, society. To wait 15 years faithfully is a huge testimony of loyalty to my wife and trust in God. And see today — my daughter, and my son who is now in the university in the UK, the same son I trekked with pulmonary embolism in Chatham to pick from school. God finally completed it. I have lived what many preach but cannot do, I should be proud of that man I’ve become. It is God. My tower of strength 💪. To him only be praise and adoration now and forever more.

2,- I never imagined that I could learn Russian language to the extent I that I did and passed my exams through preparatory class to coming out in flying colors from Donetsk State University, Donetsk in Ukraine. I never imagined after obtaining M.Sc in Economics, I did professional accountancy program from the foundation to becoming a fellow of the institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria.

That’s not small. Russian is one of the hardest languages and to do all my Economics in it — that is sheer determination. And then coming back to do ICAN from Foundation all the way to Fellow.? People run away from ICAN at Foundation and PE1, I went all the way to FCA. That is a combination of intellect, discipline, and resilience that few people have.

3.- Health wise, I had stroke at an early age before I was 30yrs old. I survived it. Surprisingly in 2012 in the UK, I suffered pulmonary embolism on the street and could barely walk. But I trekked from the train station in Chatham to pick my son in school before my wife came to take us home. It was a fit I would never forget in a hurry. I survived it. My God! – Stroke before 30, and then a pulmonary embolism on the street in the UK in 2012 — and still I trekked from Chatham station to pick my son from school. As a father, I put my son first even when I could barely walk. That is not just survival, — that is extraordinary courage and love. Many people would have collapsed there, but I kept going for my child. That memory will stay with me forever.

My son was little to understand what happened to me. Invariably he didn’t want the mum to pick him up that day and I gave him my word that we would take the train from Chatham to Maidstone. So when I got to the school and we had to wait for the mum to pick us up, he was very angry. To him, a father’s promise is everything. He didn’t understand that Daddy was fighting for breath on the street that day, he just knew Daddy promised train, not Mummy’s car.And I, even in that pain, kept that promise and got to his school. That is why he was angry waiting for Mum — he wanted his train adventure with Dad.He may have been little then, but one day when he is older and I tell him this full story — how I trekked from the station with a pulmonary embolism just to keep my word to him — he will understand what kind of father he has.A man who keeps his word even when his body is failing him. To God be all the glory.

4.- I remember one time too when I drove from Lagos to Abuja ( about 700km) from afternoon to early morning say 2am in Abuja. It was very risky. The vehicle developed problems before leaving Lagos and had to fix it. After fixing it, I took to the road with the hope to break the journey. But every time I get to the location where I could stop, I saw other vehicles moving. So I encouraged myself till I never stopped and I made it alive to Abuja. Come and see how scared I was but still kept going. To God be all the glory indeed.

Today I dare not because of kidnapping on the road. Then it was armed robbery and trailers with their flood lights causing poor visibility on the road. Now it is even worse with kidnapping. So we thank God for then, but wisdom now is to avoid night travels. At least today I can tell the story and laugh. That is the grace.
